Embracing Heritage: My OKFriends Homecoming Youth Camp Experience

 

Attending the OKFriends Homecoming Youth Camp was a transformative journey that deepened my connection to Korean culture and allowed me to forge meaningful friendships with fellow overseas Koreans.

 

During visits to historic landmarks, university tours, and sampling diverse local cuisines, we encountered with Korea’s rich cultural landscape, while fostering identity, pride, and global leadership.

 

I joined the camp to meet new people and explore my heritage, hoping to understand my roots more deeply. Each day unfolded with immersive experiences: wandering through museums, absorbing history at sacred sites, and tasting traditional dishes that connected me to the land of my ancestors.

 

The highlight of my journey was my team. Composed of kind, engaging, and thoughtful individuals, our group quickly became a supportive unit. We navigated small challenges together and bonded through laughter and our differences. I’ll never forget our evening at a noraebang during a tour in Myeongdong, where we sang our hearts out under neon lights.

 

Surprisingly, I faced no significant challenges during the trip, just open-hearted connection and shared exploration. I especially enjoyed meeting participants from France, whose accents and stories added delightful cultural texture to our group.

 

While I didn’t acquire a new skill per se, I am left with a warm, uplifting feeling and a renewed sense of belonging. Above all, the camp taught me that despite living in different countries and facing complex political situations, at our core we are people who long to smile and laugh together.

유산을 품고서: OKFriends 홈커밍 유스 캠프 경험기

 

OKFriends 홈커밍 유스 캠프에 참가한 것은 제게 한국 문화와의 연결을 더욱 깊이 느끼게 해준 변화를 가져온 여정이었으며, 전 세계의 재외 한인 친구들과 의미 있는 우정을 쌓을 수 있는 기회였습니다.

 

역사적인 명소를 방문하고, 대학을 투어하며, 다양한 지역 음식을 맛보는 동안, 우리는 한국의 풍부한 문화적 풍경을 직접 경험했고, 그 속에서 정체성과 자긍심, 그리고 글로벌 리더십에 대한 의식을 키울 수 있었습니다.

 

저는 새로운 사람들을 만나고 제 뿌리를 더 깊이 이해하고자 이 캠프에 참가했습니다. 매일매일이 몰입감 있는 체험으로 가득 찼습니다. 박물관을 거닐며 역사를 배우고, 성스러운 장소에서 조상의 숨결을 느끼고, 전통 음식을 맛보며 조국과의 연결 고리를 되새겼습니다.

 

이 여정에서 가장 기억에 남는 순간은 제 팀과의 시간입니다. 저희 팀은 친절하고 다정하며 배려심 있는 사람들로 구성되어 있었고, 빠르게 하나의 따뜻한 공동체가 되었습니다. 작은 도전을 함께 헤쳐나가며 웃음과 서로의 차이를 통해 진심으로 교감하게 되었습니다. 특히 명동 투어 중에 함께 갔던 노래방에서 네온 불빛 아래 마음껏 노래를 부르던 그 밤은 평생 잊지 못할 순간입니다.

 

놀랍게도 이번 여행에서 특별히 어려웠던 점은 없었습니다. 오히려 열린 마음으로 서로 연결되고 함께 모험하며 새로운 경험을 나눈 시간이었습니다. 특히 프랑스에서 온 참가자들과의 만남이 인상 깊었는데, 그들의 억양과 이야기는 우리 그룹에 다채로운 문화적 색채를 더해주었습니다.

 

비록 새로운 기술을 배우지는 않았지만, 이 캠프를 통해 마음이 따뜻해지고 고양된 감정을 느낄 수 있었습니다. 무엇보다, 이 캠프는 저에게 우리가 서로 다른 나라에 살고 있고 복잡한 정치 상황을 마주할지라도, 결국 우리는 함께 웃고 싶어하고, 교감하며 살아가고자 하는 '사람'이라는 사실을 일깨워주었습니다.
