The 5th Young Camp - 'Iskanderova Kamila' (Uzbekistan)

Every once in a while, you find yourself in an environment that shifts your perspective without dramatic moments or big speeches—simply through the people you meet and the experiences you share. For me, the OKFriends Homecoming Young Camp 5th became exactly that kind of environment.

Participating in this program helped me understand myself and my goals more clearly. Even though we all grew up in different countries, the atmosphere immediately showed that the Korean diaspora is not just a definition but a living community. Meeting people with similar backgrounds made me realize that our identity stretches far beyond borders, and that sense of connection feels surprisingly natural.

What stood out most to me was that the program wasn’t only about cultural activities. The mentoring sessions, university visits, and conversations with people who have already completed their master’s or doctoral studies in Korea gave me a more realistic view of what the academic path here actually looks like. Hearing their stories—practical, honest, and based on real experience—helped me rethink my own plans without pressure, just with better understanding.

Each day added something meaningful: new contacts, new ideas, and a growing awareness that the global Korean community has a strong support system and continuity. It’s a feeling of belonging that doesn’t need to be explained—you just recognize it when you’re surrounded by people who share the same roots, even if your life stories are different.

I am grateful to everyone who made this program possible: OKCC (Overseas Koreans Cooperation Center), the Koryoin Global Network, the coordinators, mentors, program directors, volunteers, and every person who contributed to the planning and execution of the camp. Thanks to their work, we were able to learn, connect, and move forward with a clearer sense of direction and a stronger connection to our heritage.
