[2025 하계] 청소년 1차 - '김유나' 참가자 수기(미국 거주)

미국에서 온 8조 김유나 참가자의 수기입니다.

 

 

Good Afternoon,

My name is Euna Kim and I am a first year high-school student from the United States.

 

I had first found out about this program through my friend who had went the year before. He said that it was one of the greatest weeks of his life. To be completely honest my first night here I didn’t understand what we found so great about it. But as I got to know everyone and meet new friends I finally understood why he wanted me to come so bad.

 

My favorite location out of the many places we visited was the Seodamun Prison History Hall. I had learned about the Korean Independence Movement from many different people throughout my life. Due to it being such an important part of our history I always took the initiative on educating myself on the topic. Visiting the Prison History Hall had made me realize that no matter how much I studied it was nothing compared to seeing the harsh conditions and punishments that thousands of martyrs had experienced. I’m very glad that we were able to visit this place alongside the many other historic monuments of Korea.

 

At first the thought of spending a week with people I don’t know in a country other than my own frightened me. But after bonding on long bus rides, sharing meals, and learning together I realized that I had nothing to worry about. Through out this camp U have made forever memories and met people from around the world who I would have never met otherwise. It is an experience I will always cherish and never forget.
